Chlorinated Polyethylene and its Resistive Properties

Growing necessity for chlorinated polyethylene (CPE) in multiple end-use industries owing to fire resistance and high tensile strength can augment its demand. When mixed with other polymers such as polyvinyl chloride it adds resistive properties to the end product from chemical, temperature, weather, and impact.

CPE Layered Cables to Ease Installation

Major product-variants of chlorinated polyethylene are CPE 135A and CPE 135B. Increasing use of CPE 135A in impact modifiers and vinyl sidings is likely to propel its demand in coming years. It is also used in polyvinylchloride electrical conduits due to its superior ductility. Moreover, increasing use of chlorinated polyethylene as a substitute to chloroprene rubber to manufacture cables and wires is likely to augment its demand in coming years.

Considering the demand, most manufacturing companies are resulting in R&D investments to create better products for consumer use. For instance, Southwire has recently launched a high quality, reasonable, multi-strand, and safe aluminum cable for down-tower wind turbine applications. This multi-strand aluminum cable provides more flexibility than any other aluminum cable, making it easier to install. In addition, the CPE outer layer allows clamps to grip, which further contributes in installation. Aluminum being less expensive than copper helps in reducing the manufacturing cost of the cable.

The chlorinated polyethylene market is likely to reach USD 890.3 million by 2025, according to a report by Grand View Research, Inc. Increasing use of high-performance polyethylene products in end-use industries is likely to propel growth of the market. Rise in production of polyethylene due to reduced manufacturing costs is predicted to fuel production of chlorinated polyethylene. Growing necessity of chlorinated polyethylene elastomers (CPE) owing to its resistive properties towards oil, temperature, and heat can drive market growth. In addition, growing adoption of chlorinated polyethylene in rigid plastic applications such as pipefittings and cable sheathing can also drive the market during the forecast period (2017 to 2025).

Some of the prominent players operating in the market for chlorinated polyethylene include Weifang Yaxing Chemical, Novista Group, Weifang Yaxing Chemical, Showa Denko K.K., and S&E Specialty Polymers.
