Industrial pumps are
deployed across a wide range of applications in many industries. They are
heavy-duty process pumps used to transport fluids such as food, beverages,
sludge, slurry, chemicals, water, oil, and wastewater. Typically, they are used
for industrial purposes, such as positive displacement pumps and centrifugal
pumps.
RMK Pumps
An India-based pump company,
Kirloskar Brothers Ltd. (KBL), unveiled their technologically advanced Romak
(RMK) pumps. These are magnetic drive pumps involving permanent magnets. These
sealless pumps are used in processing industries to handle various types of
clean and clear chemical liquids without any suspended particles.
RMK pumps can be used for
acidic and basic chemicals, intermediaries, paints, polymers, resin, and
solvents. They can also be used for pharmaceuticals and petrochemicals. Their
size can range from 32mm to 100mm with a discharge capacity of nearly 300m3/hr
(cubic meters per hour). They are known to withstand temperature ranging from
-50°C to +180°C. The design has 22 models with interchangeable elements among
different pump sizes. These pumps primarily cater to process industry.
The magnets, pumps, and
motor coupling offer many operational advantages in the handling of various
kinds of combustible liquids. These pumps fulfill required safety objectives
and are environment friendly. More importantly, they are low maintenance. These
pumps have a one-piece Hastelloy C Can for safety. The magnets are liquid
protected to ensure longer performance.
Working of a Magnetic Drive Pump
Magnetic drive pumps balance
magnetic fields to generate rotation of the fluid impeller. This type of pump
replaces the direct drive mechanism with magnetic field. On the other hand,
centrifugal pumps have a direct drive connection between the motor and
impeller.
